Be Cointreauversial – Dita Does Sydney

Last night had to be one of the best nights ever – I couldn’t quite believe it was happening! The venue was so intimate, that we were no more than 1m away from her. I’m still in awe at the sheer quantity of sparkle – and don’t even get me started about the shoes!

There are very few gods and goddesses who show their fans some genuine love back, and Dita Von Teese is definitely amongst those few. Not only do we love her for her beauty, talent and style, but also for the genuine kindness and thoughtfulness she shows her fans.

I feel so very privileged and fortunate to have experienced last night.

Today’s Goddess Inspiration

Just saw this photo and absolutely love it! She’s Jac Bowie Worldwide’s newest cover girl Vicky Butterfly and she is absolutely divine!

I love the decadent 20s feel of this photo and those Art Deco-ish knickers are to die for! This will be my inspiration when I start to design my next glamorous party outfit…

1950′s sewing patterns

The biggest problem in the daily life of a vintage goddess is finding new outfits. I’m not a big fan of current fashion trends and constantly run into issues while I’m trying to find new additions to my wardrobe.

I’ve come to the conclusion that the best way of resolving this issue is to buy a sewing machine.

I spent a wonderful day catching up with my dear grandma and she introduced me to her vintage sewing magazine collection. In every magazine she could point out several glamourous dresses and tell me what kind of fabric she used and what occasion the dress was made for.

Luckily she taught me how to use a sewing machine when I was about 3 years old and I’ve been fluent with one ever since.

She gave me all the 50′s and early 60′s magazines she had, and now I have patterns aplenty for my new glorious wardrobe.

I will be posting photos of the finished products as soon as I can find fabrics worthy of these fabulous designs…

How to be glamorous?

1. Know who you are and what you have got

Being glamorous begins from you. Study yourself from the mirror and see what sets you apart from others and play on that. That’s a good starting point. Know who you are and what are your best assets.

Got a fantastic pout? Great, never leave the house without red lipstick! Hourglass figure? Make sure all your outfits accentuate your waist! Pins to die for? Make them even longer with a stunning pair of stiletto pumps! Voluptuous bosom? Flaunt it darling!

Playing on your best assets draws attention away from little things you might not be so comfortable with.

2. Choose a style icon / era

Choosing a style icon gives you a good reference point. It helps, if you have something in common with them whether its body shape/size, hair colour or facial features.

Study the style you like. Identify the era/decade that you are most drawn to, in order to draw inspiration from a wider field. Know everything about your style icon in order to be able to learn from her style and fill in the gaps that you might not be able to reference from her pictures only.

Not sure where to start looking for a style icon? Here’s a list of goddesses from “Burlesque and the Art of the Teese‘ book:

3. Practise, practise, practise!

In the end it all comes to doing it right. Whether it’s red lipstick, 50s eyeliner flicks, false lashes, curlers, hairdos or walking on skyhigh stiletto heels, it all takes practise to master the skill!

What is Glamour Advocate?

Quoting the divine goddess Dita, ‘I advocate glamour. Every day. Every minute.’ Life is simply too short not to.

Why should you only dress up on special occasions and spend most of your life wearing something inferior? What good does your nicest lingerie do rotting in the back of the drawer, when you could be wearing it every day? Who is going to treat you like a goddess if you don’t declare yourself as one?

It is my manifesto to bring back the glamour of the decades past. The ‘girl next door’ had her chance, now it’s time for something different!

Now its up to you to unleash your inner goddess/pin up girl/femme fatale/bombshell! Curl up your long locks into tantalising victory rolls* in the morning, slip your seamed stocking veiled pins into a pair of stiletto heels combined with a sexy pencil skirt, and paint a glorious pout with the most outrageous red lipstick you can get your hands on before you walk into the office.

I will dedicate this blog to pass on all you need to know on clothing, lingerie, make-up, hair, shoes & accessories, and all the other dirty little secrets a damsel needs to know to be classy & fabulous.

And remember, in the morning when you are trying to decide what to wear, don’t forget the mantra ‘What would Dita do?

(* Don’t worry, if you don’t already know how to do victory rolls, I’ll teach you how soon. Or in case you can’t wait, just youtube it, there’s plenty of videos teaching you how)

Back with a pooch!

Yes. I have been a very bad girl. There has been no blogging. But I have a very good excuse for it: I haven’t been shopping.

Why? I traded in my shopping habit for a puppy!

Isn’t she gorgeous?

The loveliest compliment

I just have to share a little story from the other day.

My partner had been visiting his family overseas for two weeks and finally returned on Saturday. I went to meet him at the airport, and had naturally dolled up for the occasion. My outfit was built around a cute little 50s ‘candy striper’ style shirt dress, and a pair of slinky 4.5inch peeptoes.

As I was peering at the arrivals board trying to spot my darling man’s flight, a charming elderly gentleman walked up to me and said:

“I’m sorry to bother you miss, but I just have to say that its wonderful to see a classy lady these days! These modern day girls *gestures around*  they slouch around in god knows what… Its so nice to see a girl in a pretty dress and high heels …you look like the beautiful girls I used to take out back in the day.”

Now how lovely is that?

Channelling my inner Domestic Goddess

For some reason I just find the whole 1950s housewife idea so incredibly attractive. I love the clothes, lingerie, hairstyle, makeup, and I – of course – absolutely adore the shoes!

I have just realised that I lack an apron. Now how much more appealing is housework if you think about prancing around the house in stiletto pumps and a sexy lil apron during?

I just can’t decide between the two three of these:
